Performance Reviews — For Managers
As a Manager, you play a critical role in OpenHR's performance review process. After your direct reports submit their self-assessments, it's your turn to evaluate them.
Accessing Pending Employee Reviews
Navigate to Performance from the sidebar. In the Manager Review section, you'll see:
- A list of your direct reports who have submitted their self-assessments (status: SELF_REVIEW_SUBMITTED).
- Each card shows the employee's name, department, and current review status.
You'll receive email and bell notifications when employees submit their self-assessments.
How to Review an Employee's Performance
Click on an employee's review card to open the review form:
- View Self-Assessment — See the employee's self-ratings and comments for each competency.
- Attendance & Leave Summary — Review the employee's attendance record and leave usage during the review period.
- Add Your Ratings — For each competency, provide your own rating (1–5) and comments. Consider:
- How the employee's work aligns with each competency
- Specific examples of strengths or improvement areas
- Whether the employee's self-assessment is accurate
- Overall Comments — Add any general feedback about the employee's performance.
Submitting Your Manager Review
Once you've completed all ratings:
- Click "Submit Manager Review".
- The review status changes to MANAGER_REVIEWED.
- HR is notified that the review is ready for final calibration.
- The employee can now see your feedback alongside their self-assessment.
Tips for Effective Manager Reviews
- Be specific — reference actual projects, deliverables, or incidents.
- Be balanced — acknowledge strengths while constructively addressing areas for improvement.
- Be fair — base ratings on observable performance, not personal preferences.
- Complete reviews promptly — you'll receive deadline reminders at 3 days and 1 day before the cycle closes.
